On 1 August 2026 the Romanian Association of Constitutional Law marked World Constitution Day, celebrated in Lugano, Switzerland, a place of strong significance for contemporary constitutionalism and home to the newly founded International Constitution Center.
The President of the ARDC Board of Directors, Prof. Marieta Safta, took part in the international conference dedicated to the day with a presentation on constitutional justice in the context of new challenges, such as artificial intelligence and global governance.
In a symbolic gesture, the presentation was delivered through an avatar generated with artificial intelligence. The message was clear: while technology profoundly transforms the ways we communicate and interact, its development and use must remain permanently guided by constitutional values, human judgement and the principles of the rule of law.
The event reaffirmed the constitutional community’s commitment to promoting constitutionalism, democracy, the rule of law and the protection of fundamental rights. The coincidence of World Constitution Day with Switzerland’s National Day gave the occasion a special meaning, with Lugano offering a symbolic setting for international dialogue on the future of constitutionalism in a society undergoing rapid technological change.
