The mission, story and people of the Romanian Association of Constitutional Law.
Mission
Our mission
We promote the study and research of constitutional law and cultivate academic dialogue between generations, disciplines and countries. We believe a living constitutional culture is the foundation of the rule of law, and that academic cooperation, support for research and institutional partnerships across the European constitutional space are the way to build it.
To that end, we:
- organise conferences, roundtables and seminars dedicated to the great themes of constitutional law;
- support research and the training of young constitutionalists, doctoral students and early-career researchers;
- develop academic cooperation with universities and institutions in Romania and abroad, from the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law and CEREFREA Villa Noël to Moldova State University;
- promote scholarly publications, first of all the Constitutional Law Review, and relay the case law of the Constitutional Court and the debates of the international constitutional community;
- represent the Romanian community of constitutionalists in the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL-AIDC) and take part in its events, a commitment written into the association's own statute.
History
A tradition of constitutional debate
The community of Romanian constitutionalists has grown over the years around the Annual Roundtable of constitutional law, an academic tradition now at its 27th edition. The 26th edition (10 October 2025) was devoted to "Security and the Constitution", and the 27th (25 September 2026) to "Democracy and Demagoguery". Both were held at CEREFREA Villa Noël together with the Centre for Constitutional Law and Political Institutions (CDCIP) of the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law.
The ARDC is present on the international stage as well. As the national association affiliated with the IACL-AIDC, it represented Romania at the 12th World Congress of Constitutional Law (Bogotá, July 2026) and at World Constitution Day (Lugano, August 2026), and across the Prut it partners the constitutional law conferences organised by Moldova State University, with which it has had a cooperation protocol since 2023.
The association shares its activity on its official Facebook page, where it publishes event announcements and reports and relays calls for papers, Constitutional Court case law and debates from the IACL network.

Statute
The association's statute
The statute of the Romanian Association of Constitutional Law sets out the purpose, objectives, membership categories and governing bodies of the association, including its commitment to cooperation with the International Association of Constitutional Law. The General Assembly meets every year during the Annual Roundtable. The association is seated at the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law (36-46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Blvd).
